The KAREN wiki is a collaborative space where members of the KAREN community share ideas and resources that help them to make the most of their access to KAREN.

At the end of each month we will highlight recent and interesting case studies, facts and updates from the KAREN wiki. You too can make a contribution by signing up for a wiki account.

iTunes U

iTunes U enables educators and researchers to access and share audio and video podcasts on-net.  This fantastic service from iTunes showcases a wide range of material from education and research communities all around the world. The majority of international content is hosted by the insitution so is accessible over KAREN. Some US-based content is also locally hosted so is on-net.  So what are you waiting for? Plug in your head phones and start taking advantage of this free service!

APAN27 - Taiwan 2009

Check out the highlights from the 27th APAN conference in Taiwan. Julia Charity, Scion's KAREN Champion traveled to Taiwan to join 440 delegates from 29 countries around the world and others who were able to join virtually via video conferencing.  The conference showcased the latest in computer hard-, soft- and middle-ware (e.g. personal supercomputers!) as well as novel uses of "virtual lab/field" software like "Second Life" and myexperiment.org.

The APAN29 conference is being hosted by our Australian sister network AARNet in Sydney in February next year.

SCENZ-Grid brings geospatial data to KAREN

SCENZ-Grid, a collaboration between Landcare Research and GNS Science, is building a grid infrastructure for Geoscientists in New Zealand. The SCENZGRID web portal will provide access to tools and services, developed within the BeSTGRID infrastructure, to exchange and integrate information related to land cover / land use, and will be used as prototype technology for use in other science domains.

SCENZ-Grid is also collaborating with BeSTGRID ain NZ, SEEGRID/Auscope in Perth, Australia and GEONGRID in USA.
