HITLabNZ took part in an international music collaboration using KAREN on 17 January involving University of Canterbury, Western Australia University, Manchester University, Sheffield University, Bristol University, Lancaster University and a couple other sites in UK. A musician was stationed at each site and together they brought a new meaning to the term "World Music" by playing as an ensemble, despite being separated by thousands of miles.
"It was a starting workshop to look into the ability of creating a musical orchestra over Access Grid comprising of musician from each site. It was great fun.", Nathan Gardiner, HITLabNZ
The low latency provided by KAREN and the other NRENs being used in the workshop make such real-time applications possible. The workshop used Access Grids to provide flexible video conferencing.
