Use our network

Hold a meeting with a distant colleague via video conferencing. Control research equipment remotely. Run a sophisticated computer model using multiple, real-time data sources from around the globe. Using our network can be as simple or as advanced as you want to make it.

How the network is being used now

New Zealand researchers and educators are using the network to:

  • access digital resources, content and services
  • exchange large volumes of data quickly
  • gain access to large scale national and international infrastructure
  • collaborate better on research and education projects at a distance

Our case studies provide a snapshot of how our members are using the network right now to do better, faster and different research and education.

You can also hear straight from our members how they are using the network by joining us in our seminars. Check out our events calendar for details on the next seminar.

Using the network everyday

If your organisation is a REANNZ member, it’s likely that you have access to the network from your desktop computer at your workplace. You can check whether you do have access from your desktop computer by using our Are you on the network tester.

Just like standard internet, in most cases you don’t need any special equipment to use the network for your everyday activities. The network gets you where you need to go and links you seamlessly with people, content and services in New Zealand and around the world. To test what and who you can get to over your netwrok connection, use Otago University’s tester tool.

Our network lets you to do everything faster, in a more reliable environment and in higher quality. If you’re not getting the quality of performance you expect, your organisation’s IT group may be able to help you.

REANNZ Video Conferencing

A great way to begin taking advantage of the network is to use REANNZ Video Conferencing. This service makes connecting with local and international contacts easy with simple to use video conferencing tools.

See the subscriber list to see whether your organisation is a subscriber to the service. If this is the case, then you can use the service by:

  1. signing up for a free iView account and
  2. downloading Scopia Desktop.

Using our network to get ahead

Our members, particularly from our eResearch community, are using our network to accelerate the reach, delivery and form of their work.

Large, collaborative science and research projects are our driving force. They rely on the speed, reliability and reach of the network to do better research and to do research collaboration better.

Through our network you can:

  • create new learning opportunities in 3D virtual worlds with a realistic, immersive experience
  • share huge datasets with collaborators without data loss
  • run data-intensive experiments reliably
  • control remote, large-scale research equipment with great precision
  • access high performance computing services quickly
