REANNZ has today released two reference documents on standards for neutral Points of Presence and New Zealand's interregional fibre optic connectivity.

As part of its ongoing activities, REANNZ has recently completed two documents on physical interconnect standards (Points of Presence) and New Zealand's interregional network capability.

In the spirit of openness and transparency, these documents are being made available under a NZ Creative Commons Attribution license.

Connectivity Report: Status of Interregional Connectivity (pdf, 270KB)

This report presents an introduction into New Zealand's interregional fibre optic connectivity. The provision of high speed interregional connectivity can only be realistically achieved using optical fibre.  The level of infrastructure competition within New Zealand varies geographically - this report outlines and summarises connectivity options for linking regions together at the physical level.

REANNZ Point of Presence: Technical Standards (pdf, 1.1MB)

This report details REANNZ's expectations for the environmental and equipment standards for KAREN PoPs and is a useful resource for organisations looking at establishing a neutral PoP to facilitate regional IT-based business development.
