Science, technology and bandwidth

REANNZ, 12/10/2006 12:00am

From Royal Society Alert No 144

The latest edition of eJournal USA focuses on science as an international undertaking through a growing array of collaborative efforts, technical journals, conferences, the Internet, and dedicated high-bandwidth data networks for research and education.

The eJournal has many examples of US participation. For example, Scott Horowitz of NASA describes how the world's spacefaring nations are collaborating. Three health researchers talk about work with Thailand, Central and Eastern Europe, and Peru. NASA tells of a rare total solar eclipse observed in Libya's southern desert. Norbert Holtkamp, who will lead the construction of the world's largest fusion experiment, explains how it could become a clean energy source for a growing world demand.
