Roadmap to accelerate KAREN capability released

Julie Watson, 13/08/2007 12:00am

Science and education are evolving.  New advanced networking technologies are accelerating the pace of discovery and learning across the world.  The focus is shifting toward sharing data, applications and resources and enabling collaboration between institutions, and between the research sector and private industry. New tools, applications and skills are necessary to be fully enabled by KAREN.

The Advanced Network Capability Building Roadmap 2007 – 2009 lays out the key actions New Zealand needs to catch up. The document outlines three areas for development: skills, technologies and awareness. It provides a useful framework for educators, researchers, policy makers and funding agencies to direct the effort required to make KAREN essential infrastructure.

The Roadmap as a whole consists of four documents:
Overview including suggested actions and outcomes for future activities
Workforce Capability: Background paper 1
Technological Capability: Background paper 2
Sector Capability: Background paper 3
