Building KAREN Communities for Collaboration 2 - 5 July 2007

Excitement is mounting as registrations for this forum pour in from wide and far across the research, education, innovation and government sectors.

We have been incredibly lucky to have had support for the forum from the National Science Foundation Office of Cyberinfrastructure through an award supporting international research connectivity. Dr. John Silvester, Professor of Computer Engineering and former Vice-Provost for Scholarly Technology at the University of Southern California and Jacqueline Brown, Executive Director International Partnerships, Northwest Pacific Gigapop, have been instrumental in securing top international speakers for our forum along with funding travel for US based collaboration partners to visit their NZ counterparts.

Both John Silvester and Jacqueline Brown are attending the forum and will be available to discuss with New Zealand based researchers possibilities for US networking opportunities.

John Silvester is an authority on high-speed computer networks and is very active in advanced networking initiatives at the State, National, and International levels in the USA. He served as Chair of the Board of the Corporation for Educational Network Initiatives in California (CENIC) from 2000 through 2006, was a founding Board member of the National LambdaRail, was a member of the Internet2 National Planning and Policy Advisory Committee, and is the Principal Investigator of Translight/PacificWave - an award supporting international research connectivity from the NSF Office of Cyberinfrastructure.

Jacqueline Brown's role as Executive Director International Partnerships means that she too is involved in facilitating connections with researchers around the globe.

To register for the forum or to arrange a one on one meeting with either Jacqueline or John on 5 July or during the forum please contact julie.watson@reannz.co.nz
