ITP Connect

The ITP Connect project extended the geographical reach of our network, expanding the network to more regional Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics (ITP).

About the ITP Connect project

The Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) contributed $2 million to connect Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics (ITPs) to the network. REANNZ worked with ITPs to invest in capital to extend the network’s footprint.

Access to the network will enable ITPs to develop new approaches to teaching and learning through supporting access to online collaborative tools, rich media content and data repositories. ITPs can also take advantage of the network to streamline their IT operations through managed internet access, data storage, voice over IP, and access to shared services.

The expansion of the network will benefit our existing Members by providing additional points at which they can connect their more remote sites to the network.

Key outcomes

  • ITPs will have connection to the network for a minimum period of three years
  • Connection to the network will be at a minimum of 1 Gbps
  • ITPs will be connected to the network in 2010
  • Any expansion of the network will be of benefit to the whole research and education community

Participating ITPs

Seven ITPs were identified to participate in this project.

  • Bay of Plenty Polytechnic
  • Eastern Institute of Technology - Napier and Tairawhiti
  • Southern Institute of Technology
  • Universal College of Learning
  • Western Institute of Technology
  • Whitireia Community Polytechnic

Status of the project

REANNZ has now completed this project. All seven ITPs chosen to participate in this programme now have network connectivity.
