IT staff and network specialists are invited to a multicast workshop on 3 April. This workshop will help you take advantage of the benefits of multicast on KAREN.
Multicasting allows for a much more efficient use of network bandwidth than unicasting (traditionally how streaming content is watched on networks) and will be an important part of the delivery of any live TV service over the internet (or private IP networks). TelstraClear's IPTV trial over KAREN uses multicast.
This virtual workshop will introduce you to the basic concepts of multicast and show you how to enable multicast on KAREN. Andrew McKegg from REANNZ and Joerg Micheel from TelstraClear will cover:
This is the third of a suite of technical workshops REANNZ is offering during 2009.
The REANNZ operations team have learnt a lot about multicasting in the process of enabling multicast support over KAREN. We're keen to share our insights with the community and hear about your experiences, challenges and solutions.
With this in mind, we look forward to these sessions being interactive and engaging. So, if you're not able to grab one of the 12 ports on the video conferencing bridge to actively participate in the workshop on the 2nd, you can join us at this session on the 3rd.
1:00pm - 2:00pm, Friday 3 April 2009. [The video conference will be open from 12:30pm to allow you to test your connection]
