A group of research libraries from USA universities have launched a new online shared digital repository called the HathiTrust.

HathiTrust (pronounced "hah-tee") pulls together the digital collections, including millions of books, of research libraries from 25 American universities. Materials in the public domain will be available for reading online in full.

HathiTrust already contains over 1.9 million volumes and approximately 715 million pages of content.

A public search interface for HathiTrust content has not been developed yet. But you can read about what the trust has in plan in terms of access at: Access to HathiTrust

HathiTrust is available over KAREN.

What's happening here in NZ

The HathiTrust is a fantastic example of a community initiated effort in the preservation and sharing of digital books and artifacts.

There are a number of digitisation activities also taking place here in NZ. Visit the KAREN content page on the KAREN wiki to check out what's available both on and off KAREN. Feel free to add your digitisation initiative to the list on our wiki.
