Genetics researchers at the Wellcome Trust in the UK are generating over 1 Terabyte (1 TB) of data per week reports this article in The Register.  That's around 200 DVD movies worth of data.

Luckily, in the the UK they have JANET and here in New Zealand we have KAREN to enable such massive amounts of data to be transfered to and accessed by researchers around the world.  Using KAREN, it could take less than 15 minutes to send this huge amount of data across the country.
