KAREN Forum revving up

Vicki Lindsay, Communities Assistant, REANNZ, 02/05/2007 12:00am

2 - 5 July 2007, University of Auckland Conference Centre

Registrations are now open for the inaugural KAREN forum - Building KAREN Communities for Collaboration.

In a first for New Zealand, the forum will bring together speakers from around the globe to demonstrate how KAREN can enhance your current collaborations and enable new activities with remote colleagues and resources.

The forum has attracted an impressive lineup of international presenters, including Ian Foster (Director, Computation Institute, Argonne National Laboratory & University of Chicago) and Rick Stevens (Associate Laboratory Director, Computing and Life Sciences, Professor the Computer Science Department, University of Chicago).

Ian Foster is an expat New Zealander who pioneered the concept of grid computing and cyberinfrastructure. His colleague Rick Stevens will be presenting on trends in cyberinfrastructure and how these impact on works flows and compositions of research teams and associated funding streams.

We also have George McLaughlin, Consultant for TEIN2 and APAN (ex CEO of AARNET), Rhys Francis, NCRIS Facilitator for Platforms for Collaboration and Nick Tate (Director, ITS and AusCERT The University of Queensland) from Australia.

Check out our website for profiles of our key speakers, as well as the updated programme and accommodation and location information.

We are still working maximising speaker coverage across disciplines and have briefed all presenters on taking a generic approach to advanced networking techniques, covering applications, processes, and learning applicable to all disciplines using KAREN.

To register simply email julie.watson@reannz.co.nz indicating the days you wish to attend, including the dinner. There is a flat registration fee of $100.
