eResearch Symposium in New Zealand

BlueFern^TM at the University of Canterbury is hosting a High Performance Research Symposium (HPRS) in conjunction with APAN26, on 4 August 2008 at the Millennium Hotel, Queenstown.

The HPRS will lead into APAN 26 by showcasing best practice e-Research projects, programmes and tools.

The Symposium will

• demonstrate the benefits of e-Research projects currently underway in New Zealand, and introduce overseas best practise examples
• act as an informal catalyst for collaboration and further development of e-Research networks

Speakers at the High Performance Research Symposium 

Speakers include:

• Professor Ian Foster, an expatriate New Zealander who pioneered the concept of grid computing and cyber-infrastructure. Ian is currently Director of the University of Chicago and Argonne National Laboratory's Computation Institute.
• Dr Bill Appelbe, the Chief Executive Officer of Victorian Partnership For Advanced Computing (VPAC) and formerly the Head of the Computer Science Department at RMIT.
• Dr Marienne Hibbert, the Project Director of BioGrid Australia (formerly BioGrid:MMIM Project).
• Dr Richard Blaikie, Deputy Director of The MacDiarmid Institute for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology, and Professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Canterbury.
