eResearch Australasia 2008 will be held 28 September - 1 October in Melbourne, Australia, with workshops following on 2 and 3 October.

The conference will feature speakers and demonstrations from the Australian and international eResearch community and will focus on:

  • Raising awareness for eResearch activities in Australia and the Asia Pacific Region
  • Information sharing and networking among those engaged in eResearch activities
  • Discussion of issues related to eResearch, e.g. technology issues, cultural change, and other barriers
  • Providing information about Australian and regional eResearch initiatives.

Keynote speakers include:

  • Senator the Hon Kim Carr, Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research
  • Graham Cameron, Associate Director of the European Bioinformatics Institute, European Molecular Biology Laboratory
  • Sayeed Choudhury, Hodson Director of the Digital Knowledge Center, Johns Hopkins University
  • Michael Fulford, Professor of Archaeology at the University of Reading
  • Kerstin Lehnert, Director of the Geoinformatics for Geochemistry Program at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, Columbia University
  • John Wilbanks, Vice President, Science Commons

The conference program also includes the eResearch Forum, a town meeting style feedback session for AeRIC which will look beyond existing initiatives for fresh ideas in innovation.
