Funding criteria, guidelines and examples of the types of activities that the Capability Build Travel and Event Fund may support to help you make your application.
The 2010 Capability Build Travel and Event Fund encourages applications from core KAREN members (universities and Crown research institutes) to support their eResearch and KAREN capability building efforts. The purpose of this fund is to provide funding for travel and events that demonstrate the value of collaboration on KAREN, networking technologies and the applications and services for which they are used. All applications must be aligned to the Goals of the CBF.
These grants are funded by a limited amount of money and will be awarded quickly. Recognition of sponsorship and a willingness to share the benefits of the funding is expected. Applications will be considered on an ongoing basis. The fund closes when all of the funds have been awarded - we expect this will be about 20 awards.
REANNZ requires award winners to write a report of their travel or event as a wiki contribution on their Member page and be available to share what was learned with the wider KAREN community, for example via a video conference.
Travel applications can be made to help fund attendance at national and international eResearch events that support eResearch and KAREN capability building. Travel funding applications may not exceed $7,500 (excluding GST).

The purpose of this fund was to accelerate our Members’ institutional capability to exploit KAREN’s full value. $50,000 per member institution was allocated to support staff time investment in KAREN capability development and awareness raising activities. This fund has supported the appointment of a KAREN Champion within each core member institution. The KAREN Champions shared their ideas and experiences on the KAREN wiki.
The Capability Build Project Fund supported projects that built capability and awareness of KAREN. Visit our CBF Project page for descriptions of funded projects.
