As part of Budget 2009, the Government has announced a $16m investment in KAREN to support leading-edge connectivity for research and education.
This $16 million capital injection will support KAREN’s ongoing operation and transition to a self-funding model.
Donald Clark, Chief Executive of REANNZ said, “We warmly welcome the Government’s new investment to ensure KAREN keeps operating as New Zealand’s advanced network. This funding is a sign of the Government’s confidence in what our members are achieving through their connection to a leading-edge, unlimited broadband environment.
“Such an investment, especially in these difficult economic times, indicates a strong commitment to science and to the investing in the underlying infrastructure of the country.
“We recognise the commitment and support of our Crown shareholders, members and other stakeholders. We will be working hard to fulfil their expectations and to ensure we continue to operate as one of worlds most efficient advanced networks”, said Donald.
