Last Friday (18 May) BeSTGRID demonstrated for the first time in New Zealand live remote teaching on KAREN using EVO (Enabling Virtual Organisations).
EVO provides desktop based video/voice collaboration and screen sharing through a web browser.
A graduate class in genomics at the University of Canterbury was taught by Dr David Bryant, a University of Auckland-based lecturer, from the comfort of his own office. There were three live video camera feeds from David’s office, including a DVD-quality feed for his office whiteboard.
David was able to share his office desktop computer screen with class in Canterbury, and provide live demonstrations of software, and PowerPoint presentations.
The session was organised by Associate Professor Neil Gemmell (BeSTGRID's Project Lead: University of Canterbury).
