REANNZ staff were fortunate to undertake two international trips during 2006.

• Mark Cordy and Donald Clark visited NRENs (national R&E networks), metro networks and government agencies in October in Canada, UK, and Singapore - Download Trip Report
  
• Julie Watson and Charles Jarvie visited NRENs and metro networks in the UK and attended the Internet2 conference in the USA - Download Trip Report
  

Both trips were very valuable in gathering the latest international best practice on NREN applications, governance, and usage.  We were also able to spread the word that New Zealand was now a part of the international NREN community.  Many contacts were made.  Everyone we met was delighted KAREN was now a reality and was keen to connect on both a technical and application level.

The reports contain interesting observations on both schools / education connectivity issues and regional access, particularly with reference to the different models employed across the UK.
